A lyrical, candid and ultimately tragic adolescent coming-of-age story of two teenage American sisters in Hong Kong in the early 1970s, set against the high-tension backdrop of the Cultural Revolution in China and on-going war in Vietnam.

This is a stunning book, which takes on complex ideas and themes with an incredible sense of economy. We loved the way the haunting story of two lost girls was interspersed with impressions of the heightened political backdrop, which still resonates decades on.
